In addition to serving regulators and central banks around the world, AIR receives funding from a diverse array of public and private organizations. Their work aligns with our goal of a fair and resilient financial and regulatory system that protects consumers, ensures access for all and stops financial crime. Our funders include:

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. It focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. AIR has a four-year, multimillion-dollar grant from the foundation to advance technology tools and policy guidance in emerging markets that protect consumers of digital financial services from harm.

U.S. Department of State

AIR was selected by the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to identify new technologies that thwart illegal transactions tied to global corruption. The Anti-Corruption Solutions through Emerging Technologies (ASET) program is designed to support the White House Summit for Democracy, including through TechSprints and other initiatives to develop potential digital tools.

National Bankers Association Foundation

The National Bankers Association (NBA) is the nation’s preeminent voice representing minority-owned and -operated banks. Its foundation (NBAF) advances the mission of Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) and supports programs aimed at closing the racial wealth gap. Together with AIR and the NBA, the NBAF has provided key support for an ambitious program to help MDIs develop digital modernization strategies.

Visa Inc.

Visa’s multinational diversity and corporate responsibility activities include support for MDIs. Its MDI Accelerate program directed $100 million of deposits to MDIs as of February 2023. The company is the inaugural funder of MDI ConnectTech, an AIR initiative to help minority-backed institutions strengthen their digital capabilities.
