Structural barriers in financial services create and worsen profound racial inequalities that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter economic recovery, we have a unique opportunity to identify and breakdown barriers of systemic racism and drive towards a more inclusive economy.

The existing racial wealth gap strains families’ economic mobility and weakens the U.S. economy. Solutions can create a multiplier effect across generations and lead to a greater shared prosperity.

AIR is working with Minority-Owned Depository Institutions (MDIs) to identify technology solutions that will help them compete in the digital age and provide targeted solutions for underserved customers. The solutions we develop will be designed for adoption by thousands of other community banks and credit unions.

My guests today are Lisa Rice, CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance, and Kareem Saleh, founder and CEO of Fairplay. Lisa is a civil rights activist. Kareem is a tech guy who founded a startup that uses AI analytics to deliver what he calls Fairness as a Service. They come from two different worlds, but they have teamed up to work on the problem of unfair lending.
