The MDI ConnectTech Initiative seeks to provide underserved communities of color with more competitive and better financial services options by assisting MDIs in modernizing their technology capabilities.

AIR — Alliance for Innovative Regulation, in partnership with the National Bankers Association (NBA), and its nonprofit affiliate, the National Bankers Community Alliance (NBCA), is searching for a Program Director to support the coordination and execution of the Minority Depository Institution (MDI) ConnectTech Initiative.

About This Initiative

A select group of MDIs will work with technology consultant(s), AIR, NBA, NBCA, and other stakeholders to create a road map for assessing their own technology infrastructure, select appropriate third-party providers to modernize their digital solutions, and create an implementation plan for integration of identified digital solutions. This will establish a ‘test and learn’ process, in which participating MDIs will learn new techniques needed to modernize and share best practices and lessons learned to scale digital modernization within the MDI ecosystem.

Job Description

The Program Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the program for a defined segment of strategic initiatives from project definition and intake to transition to full operational support and may manage multiple projects to ensure completion. The Director will work with partners on end-to-end delivery including: organize brainstorming sessions with partners to identify goals, scope and problems; draft and refine solutions; identify requirements and sources; select and set up various technical resources; recruit and communicate with stakeholders; convene partners; and collect and document best practices/lessons learned. This is an 18 month grant funded position.

Responsibilities & Deliverables

Overall Program Management

Leads and drives the development of the MDI project, including:

⏵ Developing scope, schedule and cost

⏵ Defining the goals and objectives

⏵ Defining individual team member’s’ roles and responsibilities

⏵ Ensuring smooth transition through each phase of the project and proper communication

⏵ Establishing and reinforcing accountability

Stakeholder Management

Serve as the primary interface with MDIs, stakeholders, and team members by:

⏵ Identifying appropriate internal and external stakeholders to engage

⏵ Understanding and fulfilling stakeholders communication requirements

⏵ Ensuring alignment of the Initiative’s goals and objects with stakeholder participation

⏵ Establishing and facilitating peer learning meetings

Technology Assessment

Support the MDI technology assessment and integration plan by:

⏵ Working in partnership with the technology consultant(s) and other stakeholders to assess MDI technology needs

⏵ Supporting the identification of third party solutions

⏵ Identifying and securing other resources as need arises

Detailed Project Management

Manage the daily/weekly project team assignments by:

⏵ Monitoring progress to assure objectives are on track

⏵ Managing and forecasting funding and cost

⏵ Identifying and managing risk


⏵ Documents assessment strategy

⏵ Identifies viable third party solutions

⏵ Authors or co-authors individual implementation plans for MDIs

⏵ Authors or co-authors best practices and lessons learned

Requirements & Qualifications

⏵ 7-10 years’ experience in project or program management

⏵ 5 years’ experience leading technical and non-technical resources

⏵ Experience and/or working knowledge of community bank and credit union technology, products, and core providers/services

⏵ Experience assisting project management teams with identification of action items, tasks and activities and tracking progress

⏵ Experience at defining, implementing and continually improving standards, processes and procedures utilizing industry best practice (PMI, CMMI, etc.)

⏵ Experience developing project budgets based on the development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

⏵ Results-driven focus with relentless follow through mentality

⏵ Exceptional written and verbal communications with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, provide direction, and lead team meetings

⏵ Ability to adjust work and communication style to match that of various partners, flexing to address a variety of team, organizational, and geographical cultures

⏵ Bilingual – Spanish preferred
